About
Karis Zidore (she/her) is a choreographer, dancer and composer based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her artistic practice takes shape between body, sound and voice.
In her works Karis tends to depart from recognisable, loaded and often gendered materials in an attempt to make them slippery and turn into something else. In Slit Show (2024) Zidore works with stripping and moaning and turns gendered and objectified materials into vessels for mixed emotions. With her piece Shriller (2022) in collaboration with Olivia Rivière and Anna Moderato they investigate the high pitched shrill vibrato voice, in a constant fluctuation between enerving tension and heartfelt tenderness.
Zidore works solo as well as in close artistic collaborations with a.o. choreographers Emilie Gregersen, Naya Moll and Olivia Riviere. She has presented and performed at Dansehallerne, Copenhagen Contemporary, Ice Hot Dance Festival, Den Frie Udstillingsbygning and MDT.
Since 2016 Zidore has been artistic director and curator of thecarrierbag festival with Emilia Gasiorek. Besides three public actualizations (in 2016, 2019 and 2023) the festival has functioned as an ongoing research on curation and the shapegiving power of organisation.
Karis Zidore is a co-founding member of the community and venue Danseatelier in Copenhagen. Together with the 9 members of Danseatelier Zidore has developed and performed various collective pieces and projects since 2015 with Triptykon (2021/2022) as their latest project at display at Den Frie Udstilling ao. places.
With the moniker Gel she has released abrupt and inconsistent dance music since 2018 through labels such as Kulør, Petrola80 and Escho. She has performed at Copenhagen Dox, Alice, Copenhagen Contemporary, Galeria ze dos Bois, Skissernas Museum, a.o.
She has been invited to residencies at HAUT, The Danish Institute in Athens, Milvus Artistic Research Center in Knislinge, Åbne Scene in Århus, Lunga in Seydisfjördur, Bikuben/HAUT pop-up residency, a.o.
